Dental Bridge
A typical dental crown and bridge procedure involves two appointments. The first appointment is usually done under local anesthesic, where the old filling and decayed areas of the tooth are removed. A post (s) or pin(s) may be required to retain the new filling which serves as the foundation of the tooth to replace the missing structure.
A crown preparation is then performed to shape and contour the tooth to the ideal form to accommodate a crown. A mold is then taken and sent to the dental lab for fabrication of the crown. In the meantime a temporary crown made of tooth-coloured acrylic is then fabricated chair-side and cemented in place. Care should be taken while chewing, brushing and flossing after the first appointment before the second appointment as the temporary crown is not as strong and retentive as the final crown.

A dental bridge literally bridges the gap created by one or more missing teeth. A bridge is made up of two crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap — these two anchoring teeth are called abutment teeth — and a false tooth/teeth in between. Similar to crowns, a bridge can be made from gold alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials. Dental bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.
